Scott Witkin, Head coach of the Downey Vikings and Downey Tournament director, looks on as his young crew, who are energized by the new season, gang up on a Grenada Hill’s middy they caught off guard. Downey scrimmage tournament February 26th 2011.

The third-annual Downey Scrimmage and PCLA Officials training enjoyed gorgeous weather and a great day of lacrosse. Downey, Granada Hills, El Dorado, and Chaminade took the field in running time scrimmages that allowed the new officials game training and instruction. The rust was apparent for the coaches and teams involved, yet over the course of the day everyone showed marked improvement. All told, it was a great start for the upcoming season for all involved.

A wide-range of teams have graced the Downey Scrimmage. Mater Dei, Pacific Palisades, Manual Arts, Chaminade, Huntington Park, El Dorado, Granada Hills, and Crespi, among others. Each year the value of the teaching aspect for the scrimmage has been increasingly apparent. Many of the players involved are new to the game and this is their introduction to varsity high school lacrosse. The scrimmage went off without a hitch and we look forward to a successful season for all of the participants.
