Reining California southern section CIF champions Foothill-Santa Ana opened the 2011 boys lacrosse season the same way they finished off 2010, with a win over a talented opponent in front of a packed Foothill crowd. The Knights are seeking their 5th consecutive CIF-southern section title.
San Clemente played their season opener at Tustin High against powerhouse Foothill in the Knights challenge. In the first quarter both teams traded goals and it looked like San Clemente were going to make run for the gold. Foothill had a different idea as they pounded goal after goal for the next 30 minutes finishing with an impressive 18-11 victory over San Clemente. San Clemente continued to turn over the ball, during clearing opportunities and looked timid attacking the goal. Foothill’s transition was as good as you would see on the east coast and their sharp shooters made it look easy as they found the cage more often than not. The knight’s challenge will no doubt have Foothill knights defending their castle once again as the tournament continues this week, March 8, 2011.
